Hidden in the Hills 2026: The Cave Creek & Carefree Art Tour Limo Guide

For six days every November, the Desert Foothills quietly open their doors. Private studios that are closed the other 359 days of the year switch on the lights and let you walk in.

That is Hidden in the Hills, the Sonoran Arts League's self-guided artist studio tour, and the 2026 edition runs November 20–22 and November 27–29, Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year the tour spans 179 artists across 44 studios in Cave Creek, Carefree and north Scottsdale. Admission is free.

The Catch Nobody Mentions: It Is a Driving Tour

Forty-four studios do not sit on one street. They are scattered across miles of foothills — up unmarked washes, down gravel drives, behind gates you would never find without the map.

So the tour becomes a day of navigation. Someone is squinting at a printed map, someone is losing signal on the Google version, and someone is reversing out of a driveway that was not the right driveway.

Hand that job to a chauffeur and the day changes completely. You plan the route once, and then you just look at art.

Why a chauffeur beats a caravan here

• Nobody gets separated. Two-car convoys lose each other at the first unsigned turn. One vehicle cannot.
• Purchases go straight in the back. Sculpture, framed work, blown glass — you buy it, we carry it, and it is not riding in your lap for the next four studios.
• Wine tastings stop being a problem. Plenty of studios pour something. On a self-drive day that is a math problem; on a charter it is just hospitality.
• You can actually talk to the artists. No one is watching the clock because no one has to drive home.

Building the Route

Most groups do not attempt all 44 studios. The good version is six to ten, clustered by geography, with a long lunch in the middle.

The Cave Creek run

Start on the Cave Creek Road corridor, work the studios clustered there, and break for lunch in town. It is the densest stretch and the easiest first-timer route.

The Carefree loop

Carefree's studios sit closer together than the map suggests, and the town core — the sundial, the gardens, the galleries — makes a natural mid-day stop. This pairs beautifully with the Carefree art scene more broadly.

The north Scottsdale stretch

Longer distances between stops, larger studios, and the best views of the day. Worth the drive when someone else is doing it.

Which Weekend?

The first weekend, November 20–22, is the busier one — it overlaps a genuinely crowded stretch of the Valley calendar. Studios are lively and the energy is high.

The second weekend, November 27–29, falls over Thanksgiving. If you have family in town and need a plan that is not another meal, this is the answer. It is also the calmer weekend for actual conversation with the artists.

The Vehicle for an Art Day

This is a limousine or executive sprinter day rather than a party bus day — you want a quiet cabin, easy in-and-out at each stop, and room in the back for what you buy.

• Stretch limousines for groups of six to fourteen who want the day to feel like an occasion.
• Executive sprinters and SUVs for comfortable, low-key touring with luggage space.
• Party buses if your group is larger and the tour is the daytime half of a bigger celebration.

Charters start at $150 per hour. A full tour day, door to door with lunch, generally sits in the all-day band starting at $2,000. Point-to-point transfers start at $500.
