There are a handful of nights each fall when the Valley stops looking like a desert and starts looking like a postcard. The Spooktacular Hot Air Balloon Festival is one of them.

From Friday, October 23 through Sunday, October 25, 2026, more than twenty hot air balloons light up the outfield lawn at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale. Gates run 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. each evening, which means you arrive in golden hour and leave under a glowing envelope of nylon and firelight.

Organizers expect roughly 5,000 to 8,000 people per night and around 15,000 across the weekend. That is a wonderful crowd to be inside of — and a genuinely miserable one to park in.

What Actually Happens Out There

The signature move of this festival is that the balloons double as trick-or-treat stations. Crews tether the envelopes, and the space between them becomes a candy trail — more than 4,000 pounds of it across the weekend.

Around that, you get nightly costume contests, a free Kids Zone and haunted trail, tethered balloon rides for anyone who wants to go up, vendor booths, and food. The balloon glow after dark is the photograph everyone comes for.

It is a family-forward event on paper. In practice, a lot of the best-dressed people out there are adults in full costume treating it as the opening night of Halloween weekend — because that is exactly what it is.

The Parking Math at 7555 N. Pima Road

Salt River Fields is a spring training ballpark. It is built to absorb cars, and it does — slowly, in a single long-funnel pattern off Pima Road, with everyone arriving in the same ninety-minute window because the gates only open at five.

Then everyone leaves at nine. Together. In the dark. With children and costumes and folding chairs.

A chartered vehicle changes the shape of the entire evening. We drop your group at the gate, you walk in, and when the last balloon dims we are exactly where we said we would be. No shuttle lot. No hunting for a row letter you did not write down.

Make It a Full Scottsdale Evening

Here is where the charter earns its keep. The festival ends at nine — which is early. Too early to call it a night, especially on a Friday or Saturday.

Salt River Fields sits minutes from Talking Stick Resort and a short run from Old Town Scottsdale. A party bus turns a 5-to-9 event into a full evening: balloons first, then dinner or drinks in Old Town with the group still together and nobody negotiating who is driving.

For families, the same logic runs in reverse. Load up at the house, let the kids sprawl out on the way home, and arrive back with everyone in one piece and nobody white-knuckling Pima Road at nine-fifteen.

Choosing the Right Vehicle

Group size drives the decision more than anything else.

• Six to ten people — a stretch limo or executive sprinter. Ideal for a couples' night or a single family that wants the drop-off without the scale.
• Twelve to twenty — a mid-size party bus. The sweet spot for two or three families going in together, with room for costumes, strollers and the candy haul.
• Twenty to forty — a full party bus. Neighborhood groups, extended family, or an office crew making it a Halloween-weekend kickoff.

Late October is one of the busiest stretches on our calendar — Halloween weekend, festival season and football all land at once. Vehicles for the weekend of October 23 book out early, and the Saturday is always the first to go.
